The whole school enjoyed Weetbix and fruit together this morning at our Matariki community breakfast. The original plan was for the entire school to be seated together outside. However, the rain settled in so Collab breakfasted together in a cafe-style set up in Room 2. Everyone had to either decorate or make a place mat for the occasion. In Collab, we decided to harvest some harakeke and weave our placements. RARANGA IN PROGRESS
Our Class pet Fudgie was to have a visit from his Mum White tip, however she sadly died. Lisa kindly brought her in and the children had made a coffin for her to be buried in. We spoke with Whaea Isabel and she led a small Tangi procedure with COLLAB which was very moving and the children were very respectful and appreciated the kind and lovely words that Whaea Isabel shared with us. It was a good lesson for the children in basic Tangi tikanga also so was a rare opportunity to learn this in a safe and familiar environment. Kia ora Whaea. Moe mai White tip.
Our seior Kapa Haka group performed at the Matariki festival held at Birkdae intermediate. The tamariki were very well behaved and performed amazingly as usual :) See if you can spot our COLLAB kids.
Nga mihi aroha ki a Whaea Isabel. We love having Whaea Isabel teaching us Te Reo. It has even inspired other cultural revolutions in our classroom! :) Ka nui te pai Whaea Isabel.
