The whole school enjoyed Weetbix and fruit together this morning at our Matariki community breakfast. The original plan was for the entire school to be seated together outside. However, the rain settled in so Collab breakfasted together in a cafe-style set up in Room 2. Everyone had to either decorate or make a place mat for the occasion. In Collab, we decided to harvest some harakeke and weave our placements. RARANGA IN PROGRESS
Our Class pet Fudgie was to have a visit from his Mum White tip, however she sadly died. Lisa kindly brought her in and the children had made a coffin for her to be buried in. We spoke with Whaea Isabel and she led a small Tangi procedure with COLLAB which was very moving and the children were very respectful and appreciated the kind and lovely words that Whaea Isabel shared with us. It was a good lesson for the children in basic Tangi tikanga also so was a rare opportunity to learn this in a safe and familiar environment. Kia ora Whaea. Moe mai White tip.
Our seior Kapa Haka group performed at the Matariki festival held at Birkdae intermediate. The tamariki were very well behaved and performed amazingly as usual :) See if you can spot our COLLAB kids.
Nga mihi aroha ki a Whaea Isabel. We love having Whaea Isabel teaching us Te Reo. It has even inspired other cultural revolutions in our classroom! :) Ka nui te pai Whaea Isabel.
We're goin to the zoo zoo zoo ...how about you you you...You can come too too too...We're goin to the zoo zoo zoo!!!
Ok so we've actually already been but you can see what we did right here :)))
COLLAB had the esteemed responsibility of running Assembly this week. Paki and Te Ahu introduced themselves through mihi and pepeha first. They had also created some rhymes so they could rap each event to keep Assembly flowing. We thought this was too good an opportunity to miss to present our mihi - a real reason to introduce ourselves and use the skills we've been practising this year! We had a selection of brave speakers, and even a variety of languages! Ben presented the speakers, starting with his own mihi to introduce himself. Gaby presented in Bulgarian, Amelie in French, Aung in Burmese and Dayton in te reo Maori. Great job, presenters, awesome Participating and Contributing!
Our Harry Potter Unit to start Term 2 was amazing!!!! Book fortnight was so much fun with wand making, spell casting, potion researching and movie watching! We also read a book! Being sorted in to houses was exciting and the Harry Potter evening was the icing on the cake! Hagrid even paid us a visit on his motorbike. We all performed the best magic spell turning a single bag of lollies into bags and bags of lollies!!!! Lollie-o-sa!
We are very lucky to be a Duffy Book school as each term we get to hear inspirational speeches given by inspirational people. We also get to choose 2 books that we can keep :) In term 1 our speaker was Moeata Keil who is a Doctoral Candidate - Doctor of Philosophy at Auckland University. Thanks Duffy Books for everything you do for us. We love reading!!!
House day is always a fun time with many activities on offer. Mrs Skinner and myself were on sport and had some water games that were perfect as it was a very hot day! Everyone had a great time with lots of laughing :)
